The parent Chapter of The Wild Heart Organization was founded in Indiana in 2001. It is under the direction of the Board of Directors. Wild Heart Organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization. The flying wing heart with halo has been registered as our trademark through the U.S. Department of Patents and Trademarks. Our energy and resources will go towards victims and programs of domestic violence.
On January 11, 2001, our family suffered a tragedy that forever changed all of our lives. Our daughter, Michelle R. Gifford, was murdered by her husband with her two little girls listening and experiencing the horrific event of that night. Through the tragedy of loss, The Wild Heart Organization was born. Wild Heart began as a fundraiser for Michelle’s two little girls who were 9 months and 3 1/2 years old at the time of the murder.
No insurance, no savings, and no resources were available at that time to help with the expenses the family incurred that tragic night. Michelle’s closest friends and cousins organized two Wild Heart Benefits. After the benefit events, we felt that we needed to turn our loss into something positive that would tell our story and leave a legacy of hope for Michelle’s two little girls as they grew up. Our story is a testimony of faith and hope. Through the Grace of God we walked through this terrible darkness and came out in the light with his Mercy.
The Wild Heart Organization has continued to expand our efforts & have reached not only in Indiana, but Florida and Alabama. Groundwork was laid out carefully and with focus on being a positive addition to an already established domestic violence network of programs and events in these areas.
Wild Heart’s main objective, in the expansion, is to have our efforts honor the Organization’s beginning cornerstone. Wild Heart’s fundraising efforts will go to benefit area needs. There are many programs and facilities Wild Heart will support with their efforts. Wild Heart will also concentrate on bringing awareness to this ever increasing tragedy of society by speaking out, contacting community leaders, and teaming up with the community to help join in our efforts against domestic violence. Our family knows the ultimate price domestic violence through the loss of a loved one. It is our sincere hope that our story will save another family the heartbreak and aftermath that we experienced.
The Mission of the Wild Heart Organization is to “shatter the silence” of domestic violence by raising public awareness and funds to support victims and programs. Our focus is on education, prevention, and stopping the cycle of domestic violence. We are committed to connecting the pieces through an established network to relay programs and services to enhance efforts against abuse in our communities. Wild Heart was born to make sure no one walks alone!
